கூண்டுப் புலிக்கு

கேரட் தரும்

சிறுமியொருத்தி

அதன் பசித்த கண்களைக்

கவனிக்கவேயில்லை

கூண்டுப் புலியைச்

சீண்டும்

சிறுமியொருத்தி

அது நகைச்சுவை உணர்ச்சியற்றது

என்பதை அறிந்திருக்கவில்லை

கூண்டுப் புலியைச்

சவாலுக்கு அழைக்கும்

சிறுமியொருத்திக்கு

புலி மிகவும் தந்திரமானது

என்பது தெரியவில்லை

கூண்டுப் புலியைப்

புகைப்படம் எடுக்கும்

சிறுமியொருத்தி

தான் எடுப்பது

புலியின் ஒரு பொய்த் தோற்றம்

என்பதைக் கண்டுபிடிக்கவே இல்லை

கூண்டுப் புலியோடு

பேச முற்படும்

சிறுமியொருத்தியால்

அதன் மௌனத்தின் ஆழத்தை

நெருங்கவே இயலவில்லை

கூண்டுப் புலிக்குக்

கதை சொல்ல முற்படும்

சிறுமியொருத்தி

கானகத்தின் கதைதவிர

புலிக்கு எந்தக் கதையும் புரியாதென்பதை

அறிந்திருக்கவில்லை

கூண்டுப் புலிக்குக்

கவிதை எழுதக் கற்றுக்கொடுக்கும்

சிறுமியொருத்தி

வார்த்தைகளின் ரத்த வேட்கை குறித்துப்

புரிந்துகொள்ளவே இல்லை

கூண்டுப் புலியின்

பிறந்த நாளுக்குப் பரிசளிக்கும்

சிறுமியொருத்தி

கூண்டுப் புலி

பரிசுகளையல்ல

அதைத் தரும் கரங்களையே

கவனிக்கிறதென்பதை

அறிவதில்லை

கூண்டுப் புலியை

முத்தமிடுவதன் மூலம்

அதை இணங்கச் செய்யலாம்

என நம்பிய சிறுமி ஒருத்திக்கு

தான் ஒரு புலியின் கூண்டைத்

திறக்கிறோம் என்று

கடைசிவரை

தெரியவே இல்லை.

The caged tiger

A little girl

Giving a carrot

To the caged tiger

Did not notice

Its hungry eyes.
A little girl

Who poked

The caged tiger

Did not know

That it did not have a sense of humour.
A little girl

Who invites for a challenge

The caged tiger

Does not know

that the tiger is very crafty.
A little girl

Taking a photograph

Of the caged tiger

Never found out

That what she was taking

Was the tiger’s simulation.
A little girl

Trying to talk to

The caged tiger

Was never able to draw close to

The depths of its silence.

A little girl

Trying to tell a story

To the caged tiger

Did not know

That the tiger does not understand

Any story except that of the forest.
A little girl

Trying to teach the caged tiger

To write poetry

Never understood

The blood lust of words.
A little girl

Giving the caged tiger

A birthday present

Does not know

That the caged tiger

Is not paying attention

To the gift

But to the hands that give it.
A little girl

Who believed that

She can make the caged tiger comply

By kissing it

Did not know

Till the end

That she was opening

The cage of a tiger.
